"The gran fondo that I am going to ride is harder than the Marmotte." "Oh, how do you know that?" "The Cyclokalendar cyclo-index is telling me."
Our visitors know, Cyclokalender has three indexes:
The one and only comparison of your cycling challenge that matters. How did these come about? The exact formula is based on three elements: distance, altitude meters and altitude meters per kilometer. Circumstances such as the condition of the road surface, paved / unpaved or extremely steep slopes are not included. Simply since this info is not known from every ride. It would make a comparison impossible.
For the gran fondos the Marmotte Alps is our reference and has an index of 100. All rides with an index above 100 are harder. The Liege-Bastogne-Liege Challenge is the reference for the sportive rides and the Tour Transalp for the stage races. Only the longest distances are included.
The lists are created annually on January 1st and will be updated directly if necessary. The gran fondo-index is still led by the Tour du Mont Blanc (338km / 8450alt). The ultra-fondo (240km / 8200alt) from our partner Tour des Stations is now ranked 3rd (was 5th). We already wrote that cyclo's have become increasingly extreme in recent years. This is showed by the Marmotte.which is only at rank 19.
