In collaboration with organizer Golazo, the UCI presented the UCI Gran Fondo World Series calendar for 2021 this morning. Six new events have been added. Including the finals, there are now a total of 25 gran fondo's spread over 21 countries.
Under the current circumstances it is a bit unreal to look ahead to events of which you have to wonder if they will continue, but we still want to look to the future with optimism. Ex-world champion in cyclocrossErwin Vervecken is the big man behind the programme. We spoke to him last week and he said: "Some events will probably be cancelled, but we are looking positively to the future and hope to be able to ride again from March, April next year. "

Adding the Gran fondo Vosges (Fra) catches the eye. For cyclists from the Benelux, but also for the rapidly growing number of followers in France and Germany, this is an extra opportunity to enforce qualification without having to travel far. The Schleck Granfondo (Lux) is another usual suspect which is present again
Who qualifies may travel to Bosnia-Herzegivina for the final in Banja Luka which will be held from 1 to 5 September.Related stories
